The Rotary Club of Northwest Austin is not only one of the most active service organizations in Central Texas but one that consistently and quietly supports many worthy causes in our community, our country and around the world.
Our diverse membership each year awards over $25,000 to high school seniors for college scholarships and provides grants and awards directly to teachers and paraprofessionals in the Round Rock School District for their outstanding work. We provide fans for elderly members of our community and help to build personal transport systems for those without means in third world countries, to name just a few of our projects.
Our club sponsors students studying abroad with Ambassadorial Scholarships and we send people overseas to learn how others in their professions accomplish their goals. Along with our sister club in Monterrey, Mexico, we have bought cancer detecting equipment for a hospital and bikes, laptops and supplies for schools.
We do all this and more through our annual holiday fruit sale where we go out into the community to meet our friends, neighbors and business associates to sell and then deliver fresh oranges and grapefruit from the Rio Grande Valley. This past year we raised almost $100,000 and will raise even more this year -- and we do this with 100% participation from our members who have 100% fun doing it!
Although I am a relatively new member of this club I discovered immediately the unusual level of commitment to worthy causes among our members and the high level of fun they have setting and reaching the goals of the club. We meet weekly to hear from a variety of speakers presenting a myriad of topics from which we learn a great deal no matter what the topic.
You are invited to visit us and see how our members make a difference in the world!
